Not Just a Hearer – But a Doer by Yolanda Shanks

A Deliberately Living Life Devotional Study – Volume One – Not Just a Hearer but a Doer contains 31 devotionals in the following format:

  • Topical Introductory Story or Illustration
  • Scriptural Observation
  • Background
  • Interpretations
  • Application
  • Scripture Memory Passages
  • Personalize the scripture verse text (in journaling space)

I enjoyed the format of the book and believe many other women would too – especially those women with a busy life who are searching for a brief before or after work worship time that is not too research-heavy and time consuming, but also is not too light spirituallyl.  Ms. Shanks has created the balanced combination in this Devotional Study.

I like that each topic is not limited to only a single interpretation.  God often meets us individually, and this study provides multiple opportunities for meditation and space to write each day’s personal application which is guided in varied ways through topical scripture verses, an outline form or a general challenge.  Each of these challenges is written as an encouragement to “deliberate thinking (and actions) as a citizen of the Heavenly world while living in this fallen world.”

Because all scriptures are written out (King James Version) the study could be completed in 10-15 minutes, including a few minutes to write out application, or re-write and personalize a Bible verse to think about the rest of the day, or to pray over in preparation for the next day.

It was also thought provoking for me to look back to check progress on the previous day’s application and/or scripture memory, before beginning the next day’s devotional study,

I received a free copy of this book/Ebook/Product to review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC Regulations. I am part of The CWA Review Crew.
