Three Prayers for Today
As you read this I will be in Tennessee praying with women from across the world. Isaiah’s prayer is a fitting prayer as we discuss and pray about the turmoil in the world today, and as relevant today as when first spoken: How we long for God to open the eyes of the world that they might see Him for who He is!
Isaiah’s Prayer:
[a]Oh, that you would burst from the heavens and come down!
How the mountains would quake in your presence!
2 [b]As fire causes wood to burn
and water to boil,
your coming would make the nations tremble.
Then your enemies would learn the reason for your fame!
3 When you came down long ago,
you did awesome deeds beyond our highest expectations.
And oh, how the mountains quaked!
4 For since the world began,
no ear has heard
and no eye has seen a God like you,
who works for those who wait for him!
I too love the movies that portray justice over evil and cheer when the “good guy” wins or is vindicated. I like to think of myself as among those good guys, even though scripture teaches that all have sinned and gone astray. It’s no secret that no one is perfect and the women I am spending time with this week freely acknowledge that and we pray for each other
We write to stir up others to follow after God and that our faith-in-action would bring God glory. The most difficult thing to my mind is to acknowledge and bow to the sovereignty of God – that Jesus is Lord and has the right to overrule human plans and even hopes. We believe we are called and set apart to do the writing, speaking, and teaching that we do. We’ve gathered together to offer thanks and praise for the opportunity to open hearts to activated faith with those gifts we’ve been given.

And as we wind up our mountain-top time together and head back to our homes, our offices, our computers, and our goals and deadlines – and back to reality where we will once again be challenged

3-5 All praise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us. We have plenty of hard times that come from following the Messiah, but no more so than the good times of his healing comfort—we get a full measure of that, too.
