Goal Day minus 4 – ShapelyGirl Fitness Month Review

I am one of 27 women reviewing Debra Mazda’s ShapelyGirl Fitness DVD routines.  This will likely be the most unusual – and most public – review I’ve ever done for any product.

This will be a spiritual adventure of camaraderie, encouragement and support from our 27 member group.

DETOX is the theme of my preparation week.  Since there are four areas of my life, I am working on all four

Spiritual

Mental

Physical

Emotional

Today is goal Day minus 4.  Spiritual Detox day.

Now why would I do that to prepare for reviewing a fitness DVD?  Because like many reader’s identify with the heroine in the story, I identify in many ways with Debra Mazda, designer of the ShapelyGirl Fitness routines.

Who among us hasn’t begun and quit dozens of routines and plans to ‘change our lives’, to change our shapes, and to guide our minds away from the poor-health habits (addictions) of our lives. And what is the key that could make ‘this program’ be the switch from diet or program to life-style?

For me it will only happen if it is spiritual.  And spiritual change always begins with repentance.

Repentance means a turning away from.

The Old Testament Hebrew translantions render repentance with two verbs – one meaning to feel sorrow and the other – to return.

My repentance translates it thus:  I have left (God’s plan, protection ad provision) for my health and I sorrow – not just because of the consequences, but because I have learned when I see my children and others I love stray from what is good for them and make poor choices that resulted in limiting their well-being in every way. I am admitting guilt to choosing to eat at the world’s table (chocolate, potato chips and lack of exercise) instead of taking care of my body.

The New Testament Greek translation of repent is to think differently.  To turn away from former thinking patterns and to think differently about something.  Some call it a change of heart.

My theme verse for this 30 day review experience is Is. 55:2

“Why do you spend money for what is not bread,
And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good,
And delight yourself in abundance.

I once spent almost a whole year eating nothing but sugar-filled chocolate by the bag or over bowls of whipping cream (which seemed lighter than ice cream) before I got found out.  The diagnosis of the consequences of that willful behavior was malnutrition due to dependency on the chemical reactions of the sugar and the chocolate for life satisfaction.

Instead of going from strength to strength in the Lord, I was going from hit to hit with chocolate, like any addict.  I’m currently reviewing notes from a FREE course which changed my life – The Lord’s Table at www.settingcaptives free.com.

Stage 1 – Goal Day minus 4 is to repent and accept God’s gifts of “all I need for life and godliness”

2Pet. 1:3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

When not living in that power (actually meaning when denying that power by my actions) I feel heavy, sluggish, moody, and begin believing the devil’s labeling (loser, quitter, hopeless, etc).

Beginning early this morning, I cleaned out room after room of my “temple” – my spiritual body – the living room, bedroom, kitchen, closet, basement, attic, every area swept clean, I’m now ready to move on to

Goal Day – minus 3

I hope you will join us on your own at home with this 30 day energizing. You can find Debra’s story at www.shapelygirlfitness.com/

  1. What a power and beautiful post from you heart. I think it’s interesting that we (All of us in the Shapely Girl Fitness Review) are all from different walks of life and yet we seem (at least the post I’ve read so far..) to have the same struggles with food. I can’t wait to see how God is going to work this month through the Review. I’m so excited. BTW, love your blog! 🙂

    • Carol, it’s been great to meet you through CWA and ShapelyGirls Fitness crew. The first week was the hardest as I’ve not done cardio for awhile. Each time it’s a little easier and I’m with you, eager to see how God is working through all 27 of us – I’m confident with all the support and prayers for one another, it can only be good! I appreciate your coming by and hope you will visit again.
